When I left corporate, I took the worst part with me:
The belief that being seen to work was more important than doing the actual work.
It took a while (and a few burnouts) to realize this:
Stillness isn’t the enemy.
It’s the portal.
You know what it is...
A pause.
A deep breath.
A stepping away from the drumbeat of creation and demand.
In the last 3.5 years since I went all in on my purpose-driven creative biz.
I was legit terrified of losing momentum.
("you gotta protect your outcomes bro")
Thinking that if I stopped pushing the boulder for a split second...
...it's gonna roll back to the bottom.
And I'll be forgotten.
Invisible.
Took me some time (and serious pattern-matching skills) to pinpoint where this terror came from.
It's based on the logic of the machine.
The industrial mind that says value is measured in output only.
In a constant, linear, predictable fashion.
But see, you and I. We're not a machine.
You and I are an ecosystem.
In case you're not a botanist/biologist.
I'll have you know the most vital part of any ecosystem’s cycle is the fallow season.
Yes, that's right.
(shakes head, seeing people clean up fallen leaves, bagging them in plastic)
The time when a field is intentionally left empty.
To the frantic eye, it looks like failure.
Like a complete waste.
Unproductive.
But underground, something is taking root.
The soil is recovering its nutrients.
Ideas from the last harvest are decomposing, composting into rich material for the season to come.
Connections are forming in the dark.
A silent, mycelial network of insight.
To force a harvest from a fallow field is a fool’s errand.
You get a weak, depleted crop.
And you ruin the soil for years to come.
Guess what.
Your spirit works the same way.
This period of quiet isn’t an absence of work.
It is the work.
The deep, unseen, non-performative work of integration.
Of letting things settle.
Of allowing the next true thing to germinate on its own timeline.
You cannot rush this.
You can only honor it.
Your most brilliant, world-shifting idea is not going to emerge from a spreadsheet while you’re forcing it.
It’s waiting in the quiet.
P.S.
The first half of 2025 has been this "quiet period" for me.
Despite staying committed to running this email list and write daily on LinkedIn...
The real work was me serving 1:1 clients.
And allowing this next phase of expansion to emerge.
How convenient it coincided with the Summer Solstice, am I rite!
